Student At Christian College Bleeds To Death After Delivering Stillborn Foetus In Hostel

A 19-year-old student at a small Christian collegebled to death after delivering a stillborn fetus in secret in her dorm room, the State.com reports.

Ayaanah Gibson, 19, a freshman at Benedict College in South Carolina, was found dead in her room Tuesday night after going into laborsometime Saturday or early Sunday, police say.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Gibson’s life would have been saved if she had gone to a hospital after delivering the stillborn fetus

“Had she had medical attention of any kind, she would have lived,” Watts said Thursday.

Watts said Gibson was approximately 30-32 weeks along when she went into labor alone in her room.

Benedict College provided free health care to its students, including gynecological care. It appears Gibson never received prenatal care.

Gibson, who may have been pregnant before she graduated high school, wrote on her social mediaaccount, “I miss California. South Carolina is something else I tell you.”

Watts ruled out any possibility of foul play.

“It is a tragedy,” Watts said.
