WICKEDNESS: How Son butchered And buried 67-year-old mother

A 24-year-old man, Godsgift Jonny, has allegedly butchered and buried her 67-year-old mother, Rose Jonny, in a shallow grave in Oloibiri community of Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident, which took place about 9.30pm on Monday, threw residents of the community into confusion.

Rose, a mother of four, including the suspect, according to a community source, who craved anonymity, was killed in her sleep with a machete.

She was also said to have been dragged through the window of her room for a secret burial in a shallow grave at the back of their residence.

A resident, who identified herself simply as Gloria, told PUNCH Metro that the incident had defiled their land, stressing that proper cleansing through prayers was needed.

Gloria said when Jonny, whom some residents believed to be deranged, told her mother that she would not see the next day, the deceased was said to have dismissed his threat.

The resident said, “About 9.30pm, he allegedly crept into his mother’s room and butchered in her sleep.

“He took her body out of the room through the window to the back of the house, where he dug a shallow grave and dumped it.

“The next morning (Tuesday), residents noticed that Rose’s room was locked and several knocks on the door were not responded to.

“Another son of the deceased was summoned by neighbors.

When he arrived, he ordered that the door be forced open. By the time the door was forced open, the whole room was soaked with blood and signs of struggles were noticed.”

It was learnt that the neigbours and Rose’s children traced the blood lines to the shallow grave.

A family member, who identified himself simply as Godwin, told our correspondent on the telephone that the family preferred to keep the incident within the family.

Spokesman for the Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, confirmed the incident.

Akhigbe said, “The case has been transferred from the Ogbia Police Station to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation.

“The family of the deceased claimed that the suspected killer is having psychological problems.”
