Councillor Among Those killed in Kwara communal clash

THREE persons, including a councillor, were on Thursday confirmed dead in a communal clash between Ganmo and Ganna in Ifelodun Local Government of Kwara State.
The unnamed councillor allegedly killed on Tuesday, had his head and two hands chopped off by his assailants.
The other victims, a man and a woman, were reportedly killed on Wednesday.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Olufemi Fabode, confirmed the killings in a telephone interview with our correspondent.

He said, “Seven people were not killed – only three were killed – a man and a woman yesterday (Wednesday) and a councillor on Tuesday.”
Our correspondent learnt that the police command had already interrogated the traditional rulers of Ganmo and Ganna over the crisis.
Fabode  said the Commissioner of  Police, Mr. Agboola Oshodi-Glover, summoned the monarchs to a meeting during which he urged them to maintain the peace and order.
The PPRO added that the command had deployed more of its officers in the communities to prevent the escalation of hostilities.
He warned that the  command would not condone any act of lawlessness and breach of peace.
He added, “Our responsibility is to ensure the protection of lives and properties.
“It is the same issue that made the CP to summon the royal fathers of Ganmo and Ganna for a peace meeting and called on them to maintain law and order.”
Our correspondent learnt that the people of Ganmo and Ganna had engaged in  supremacy tussle over the Onigamo stool  for some years now.
The Secretary of the State Government, Sola Gold, noted that issues surrounding the disputed Onigamo stool remained suspended until the determination of all cases in the courts.
