If
Nigeria was a civilized country, the minister of sports Bolaji
Abdullahi would have been fired by Monday morning first thing. But alas!
we are in a jungle where great men are looked down upon and insulted by
mere servants in public office, TON observed.
57-year-old Nigerian boxing legend, Bash Ali managed to get an audience with President Goodluck Jonathan at National Stadium last Thursday during a function and he told the president about his plight and his desire to put Nigeria's name in world boxing record through a title fight that is coming up soon.
57-year-old Nigerian boxing legend, Bash Ali managed to get an audience with President Goodluck Jonathan at National Stadium last Thursday during a function and he told the president about his plight and his desire to put Nigeria's name in world boxing record through a title fight that is coming up soon.
Jonathan
agreed with him and directed him to take up the matter with the
minister of sports, for further action but it turned out to be a
mistake. The minister refused to see Bash Ali and his security men,
acting on orders, manhandled Bash Ali mercilessly, a patriotic Nigerian,
like a common criminal. How sad!
Below is what Bash Ali said after they humiliated him and Minister Bolaji Abdullahi's response:
“There is no respect in this country for the people who should be respected. How can I, when all I am trying to do is lift up my country’s name, be assaulted by a bunch of scoundrels all in the name of protecting their master? I was already a world champion when they were in primary school.”
–– Bash Ali
In
reacting to the humiliation of the respected Bash Ali by his security
men Minister Bolaji Abdullahi simply said, there is no money and Nigeria
will not sponsor Bash Ali's coming title fight.
And that is all?
