THE
three corps members that were kidnapped a week ago have been rescued by
a team of policemen in Abua/Odual Local Government of Rivers State.
The corps members, Ogochi Martins
(male), Chijioke Richard (male) and Esther Nwachukwu (female) were
abducted from the corps members’ lodge in Ogonokom on Saturday, June 29,
2013.
Surprisingly, the kidnap victims were rescued within the same community they were abducted by the hoodlums.
The Police Public Relations Officer in
the state, Mrs. Angela Agabe, who spoke on the rescue of the corps
members, said one suspected kidnapper was arrested during the rescue
operation.
Agabe explained that while the corps
members had been handed over to the National Youth Service Corps
authorities, the suspect was handed over to the anti-kidnap unit of the
State Police Command for further investigation.
She said, “It is true that the three
corps members have been rescued. They were rescued in Ogolokom in
Abua/Odual Local Government at noon on Saturday.
“A suspected kidnapper was also arrested
during the rescue operation. While the corps members have since been
released to the NYSC authorities because they are still serving, the
suspect has been handed over to the anti-kidnap of the State Police
Command for further investigation.”
Also, the State NYSC Public Relations
Officer, Mrs. Violet Appolos, confirmed the release of the three corps
members, saying, “They (three corps members) were all released without
